Classical Figure Drawing
Location: Toronto
Instructor: Fernando Freitas
Duration: 12 weeks with a 10 week sustained pose
Learn the art of figure draiwng using our step by step method. Beginner and advanced
students will benefit from this drawing workshop. Students will be working directly from
the nude using charcoal or carbon pencil. Senior ARA instructor Fernando Freitas will
teach you the basics of gesture, proportion, and morphology. Finally finishing with big
form and small form modelling. The end effect is a dramatic three dimensional figure.
Note: This is a 10 week sustained pose.

About ARA Workshops
Group sizes are kept quite small, so each paticipant gets lots of one-on-one attention from our superb instructors. ARA instructors teach year round so, unlike many artists who offer summer/holiday workshops our instructors are professional teachers as well as successful award-winning artists Whether you are an award winning experienced artist or have never painted before, our instructors will tailor to your skill level.
Workshop hours
Most workshops are scheduled five days per week, Monday to Friday, with weekends free (unless otherwise noted). The hours are usually 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but will occasionally go to 5:00 p.m.
Evening workshop hours are: 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday workshop hours are 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Materials list:
GRAPHITE PENCILS:
Two each of: 2H, HB, and 2B
• DRAWING PAPER:
One sheet white somerset cold press
One sheet grey somerset cold press
One sheet Canson Edition, Ingres or mi-teints light blue
• CHARCOAL/CARBON PENCILS:
Either carbon or charcoal pencils in soft, medium, and hard
Charcoal: Generals
Carbon: Wolfs or Conte
One white charcoal or pastel pencil
MISCELLANEOUS:
• Kneadable eraser
• Two synthetic soft hair and bristle filbert brushes (no larger than a 6, used for blending carbon or charcoal)
• Masking tape
• Utility knife
• Sanding block
• Knitting needle (used for measuring)
• Drawing board (no larger than 18 x 24)
• Mahl stick
