The most crucial element in any figure drawing is the foundation: capturing the proportions and gesture all happen with the block-in, at once conveying the energy and gracefulness of the pose. Come learn our step-by-step process to obtain a strong foundation for capturing the human figure through observation of a live model.
Principal Instructor Fernando Freitas will teach you the basics of the basics of blocking in, gestural and completed constructs, effective use of line, visual abstraction, comparative measurement, proportion, division of light and dark, and articulation to create a strong block-in drawing.
Students will be working directly from the nude using graphite. On the first day of the workshop, students will explore different types of poses and sightlines through a series of short poses. These exercises will help students build their speed and accuracy in expressing a pose on paper. On the second day, the workshop will culminate in a sustained pose to give students a chance to push their final drawing further.
This workshop will meet for instruction and critiques at our studio from 10 am – 5 pm ET each day.
Full workshop price is $475 (model fee included), and a $150 deposit is required to save your spot. The balance will be due on the first day of the workshop.
