Immerse yourself in a 3-day drawing workshop led by Miriam Rosenthal, as she guides students through the art of constructing and designing atmospheric portrait drawings. This learning experience is open to students of all levels and integrates a blend of traditional and contemporary drawing techniques to help create unique and expressive portrait drawings.

In this workshop, students will start by learning the art of toning your own paper. Toning paper involves adding a base color with inks or acrylic which will act as a mid range value in order to allow white chalk to be applied as highlights. Once the paper has been toned and has fully dried charcoal will be applied for the background and shadows. Graphite will then be layered on top to render the portrait while white chalk and conte will be added to accent the darkest and lightest values. Throughout this weekend students will be learning techniques to capture the shape, value, form and atmosphere of the subject all while trying to capture their likeness. Miriam will share her expertise in blending different drawing materials such as graphite, charcoal, conte, and white chalk to bring portraits to life with depth and dimension.

Miriam’s teaching style is encouraging and inspiring, fostering a supportive environment where participants can explore their creativity and develop their skills. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn the basics of portrait drawing or an experienced artist wanting to try new drawing techniques, this workshop offers something for everyone.

Join in on this one-of-a-kind workshop and unlock your artistic potential as you create beautiful and expressive portrait drawings using a variety of mixed drawing materials. This workshop is a fantastic opportunity for artists of all levels to expand their skills and explore new possibilities in portrait drawing.
