This three-day workshop introduces the learner to the study of artistic anatomy. Comprising of drawing studies of the human skeleton, drawing copies of 19th century academic masters, completion of skeleton and muscle overlays, the workshop provides the student with a foundational understanding of artistic anatomy.

This three-day workshop introduces the learner to the study of artistic anatomy. Comprising of drawing studies of the human skeleton, drawing copies of 19th century academic masters, completion of skeleton and muscle overlays, the workshop provides the student with a foundational understanding of artistic anatomy. Methods of study introduced in the course will provide the student a framework for future exploration of artistic anatomy using their own figure drawings as a basis.
Key elements of artistic anatomy covered in this introductory workshop are the simplification/organization of the figure, anatomical landmarks, the proportion and structure of the skeleton, and the insertion and origin points of major muscles.

This class will meet in our studio from 10 am – 4 pm ET each day.

Full workshop price is $450, and a $150 deposit is required to save your spot. The balance will be due on the first day of the workshop.

  •  Anatomy book or Preference 3D Anatomy for the Artist app

Drawing Tools

  • Staedtler 780 lead holder (2mm) or wooden graphite pencils (HB,2B)
  • Conte sticks in black and red (optional)
  • Colour pencils (minimum of 10 colours)
  • Pen (permanent) Micron or Pilot Drawing Pens
Note: If using lead holder get 2B &HB leads (2mm)

Drawing Board

  • Masonite board (18”by 24”)

Paper

  • Bond or Cartridge paper (18” by 24” pad)
  • Tracing paper (14” by 17” or 19” by 24” pad) preference Canson
  • Sketchbook (9” by 12”)

Tools

  • Lead pointer or sanding block
  • Knitting needle 2.5 to 3.5 mm thickness
  • Masking tape
  • Kneadable eraser
  • Pencil extender
  • Utility knife
  • Pencil sharpener
