Join us for a three-day workshop, Portrait Painting From a Photo, where we will explore the unique challenges of painting from a photograph and delve into the intricacies of conveying personality and expression in oil paintings. Focusing on fundamental elements like composition, proportion, anatomy, and colour theory, guest instructor Robyn Asquini will demonstrate how to create lifelike skin tones and use various brush techniques in your work.
Throughout the workshop, participants will engage in technical discussions on oil painting materials and techniques, with daily individual critiques guiding them toward achieving an accurate portrait. We will be using a variation of the colour palette used by master portrait painter John Singer Sargent.
The workshop will include a live demonstration, offering an insider’s look at effective techniques used to create a successful portrait. By the end of the three days, participants will gain valuable insight into timeless oil painting methods and also experience the entire process of creating a portrait from start to finish.
Robyn Asquini is a graduate of the Academy of Realist Art and an Art Renewal Centre (ARC) Associate Living Master. She has won numerous awards for her paintings from the Society of Canadian Artists, Federation of Canadian Artists, Canadian Portrait Society, and the Art Renewal Center. Recently, she exhibited in New York at the Salmagundi Club’s Open Figurative Exhibition and The Dacia Gallery 13th Anniversary Group Exhibit. Her work is held in private collections internationally.
The class will meet in our studio from 10 am – 4 pm each day.
Full workshop price is $450, and a $150 deposit is required to save your spot. The balance will be due on the first day of the workshop
